IRS Warns Taxpayers of the Latest Phone Scams

Currently, the IRS is warning the public of a recent surge in illegitimate IRS phone calls and voice messages. The newest scams are automated messages referring to non-existent IRS letters mailed to the taxpayer without response. A demand for immediate payment by gift cards (like i-Tunes), and threats of arrest or lawsuits may be made. Remember, the government does not call taxpayers regarding their taxes, they always contact them in writing first. If you get such a phone call, just hang up. Also, tag any fraudulent government emails as spam and delete. We advise all clients to report any calls, fraudulent letters or emails to the government.
